Frozen pipe
Open the tap it feeds so melting water has somewhere to go. Warm the pipe gently with a hair dryer, starting near the tap. Never use an open flame.
Flooding or sewer backup
Stay out of the water if it's near outlets, cords or the electrical panel. Don't run taps, flush or do laundry until we've checked the drain.
Toilet overflowing
Turn the valve behind the toilet clockwise until it stops. If the water is still rising, lift the tank lid and pull the float up.
